Apple executives say that going overseas, at this point, is their only option. One former executive described how the company relied upon a Chinese factory to revamp iPhone manufacturing just weeks before the device was due on shelves. Apple had redesigned the iPhone’s screen at the last minute, forcing an assembly line overhaul. New screens began arriving at the plant near midnight.
A foreman immediately roused 8,000 workers inside the company’s dormitories, according to the executive. Each employee was given a biscuit and a cup of tea, guided to a workstation and within half an hour started a 12-hour shift fitting glass screens into beveled frames. Within 96 hours, the plant was producing over 10,000 iPhones a day.

As a matter of fact, such a story enlights not the fleibility of the factory, but rather a serious engineering, or product development mistake.
It’s not, that no US or European factories can keep up with such a sudden change. It’s that such a fundamental change in the product is normally pretty unusual and to be avoided.
And what flexibility are we talking about, when it took 8000 workers and 96 hours to produce 10 000 iPhones? This is just 1,25 unit per worker….
És kinek, az iPhone I-II-III-IV tulajainak, hogy bosszankodjanak?

Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad won approval from U.S. regulators to display navigational charts for some charter pilots, a step that may speed the end of the decades-old tradition of paper maps in the cockpit.
Hungary’s new constitution is being drafted on Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad, Jozsef Szajer, a ruling party lawmaker in the European Parliament, said in a blog post.
Steve Jobs will surely be happy when he gets word that Hungary’s new constitution is being written on an iPad, actually my iPad,” Szajer said in a post, adding that it was the first constitution in the world to be written on the device. “The best is I don’t have to wait for minutes to turn it on, like with a normal laptop. I can open it anywhere and can take advantage of every minute. It’s a miracle!”
Szajer wrote the post on March 1, the day before Jobs, Apple’s chief executive officer, unveiled the iPad 2, which is thinner than its predecessor and features a faster chip as well as front and rear cameras.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has set an April deadline to approve the constitution. Two of the three opposition parties in Parliament are boycotting the constitutional process, citing ruling party lawmakers’ unwillingness to compromise on issues.
Orban’s Fidesz party and its junior coalition partners, the Christian Democrats, have a two-thirds parliamentary majority, enough to approve the constitution without opposition support.
